Why Israel and the Church are Separate For Dummies

7 Biblical References Supporting Identifying Israel and the Church as Separate Entities in the Bible.  And you get a bonus because some of these verses also tell you that God said there was going to be a time of wrath upon the nations and Israel as well as the fact that God has told us that the Church will be delivered from the end times wrath to come.

Ponder this: If Israel and the Church are the same then how can God say that he is going to dwell with Israel in their land forever (Ezekiel 43:1-7) and that Jesus said he would go and prepare a place for us in his Father's house and then return so that we may be with Jesus always (John 14:8-9).

Ezekiel 43:1-7

Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looketh toward the east:

And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.

And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.

And the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.

So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house.

And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.

And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.

John 14:8-9

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

1 Thes. 1:10

And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

1 Thes. 5:9

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ

Rev. 3:10

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Jeremiah 30:4-11

And these are the words that the Lord spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

For thus saith the Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:

But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.1

Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the Lord; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.

Zechariah 13:8-9

And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

Tribulation for the Church verses Great Tribulation or the Time of Jacob's Trouble for Israel

Scripture that separates the general tribulation that christians experience versus the 7 year period of time that Jesus called the great tribulation that would occur before the day of the Lord or Second Coming.

(John 16:33 [KJV])
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

That is general tribulation not the Time of Jacob's Trouble otherwise called by Jesus "great tribulation" Matthew 24

(Dan 9:24-27 [KJV])
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Note: In two places the Word of God points out that the days equal a year therefore in Daniel's 70 weeks there is a span of 490 years described.

(Num 14:34 [KJV])
After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

(Ezek 4:6 [KJV])
And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.

(Matt 24:21 [KJV])
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

(Matt 24:29-30 [KJV])
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Clearest picture of the purpose of the Great Tribulation in the Old Testament

(Jer 30:3-11 [KJV])
For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.

Twice Israel has been regathered after this was written:

1st time in 535 BC

2nd time in 1948 but that gathering is continuing today because there are still many coming to Israel.

More old testament on the second regathering of Israel

(Isa 11:11 [KJV])
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

(Isa 11:12 [KJV])
And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

(Isa 11:13 [KJV])
The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

(Ezek 37:15 [KJV])
The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

(Ezek 37:16 [KJV])
Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of

Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

(Ezek 37:17 [KJV])
And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

(Ezek 37:18 [KJV])
And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?

(Ezek 37:19 [KJV])
Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.

(Ezek 37:20 [KJV])
And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

(Ezek 37:21 [KJV])
And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:

(Ezek 37:22 [KJV])
And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:

(Ezek 37:23 [KJV])
Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

(Ezek 37:24 [KJV])
And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.

(Ezek 37:25 [KJV])
And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.

The world will feel the wrath of God on the Day of the Lord.  The remnant of Israel will remain and will believe. 1/3 part of Israel and perhaps the world will die during the Great Tribulation.  But God will keep the remnant safe and they will all believe in Jesus and thereby be saved.

(Rev 9:15 [KJV])
And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

(Jer 30:11 [KJV])
For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.

The Church

(Eph 2:15 [KJV])
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

(Eph 2:16 [KJV])
And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

(Col 1:19 [KJV])
For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

(Col 1:20 [KJV])
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Who is eligible to be part of the church?

(Gal 3:26 [KJV])
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

(Gal 3:27 [KJV])
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

(Gal 3:28 [KJV])
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Great Tribulation for the Jews

(Zech 12:10 [KJV])
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

(Zech 12:11 [KJV])
In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

(Zech 12:12 [KJV])
And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;

(Zech 12:13 [KJV])
The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;

?

(Acts 15:12 [KJV])
Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

(Acts 15:13 [KJV])
And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:

(Acts 15:14 [KJV])
Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

(Acts 15:15 [KJV])
And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

(Acts 15:16 [KJV])
After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

(Acts 15:17 [KJV])
That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

(Acts 15:18 [KJV])
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

?

(Rom 11:25 [KJV])
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles

be come in.

(Rom 11:26 [KJV])
And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

(Rom 11:27 [KJV])
For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

?

(Ezek 39:28 [KJV])
Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

(Ezek 39:29 [KJV])
Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

God is consistent, and never changing.  He will not destroy the righteous because of the wicked:

(Gen 18:23 [KJV])
And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

(Gen 18:24 [KJV])
Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

(Gen 18:25 [KJV])
That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

(Rom 11:1 [KJV])
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

(Rom 11:2 [KJV])
God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,

(Rom 11:3 [KJV])
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

(Rom 11:4 [KJV])
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

(Rom 11:5 [KJV])
Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

(Rom 11:6 [KJV])
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

(Rom 11:7 [KJV])
What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded

(Rom 11:8 [KJV])
(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

(Rom 11:9 [KJV])
And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

(Rom 11:10 [KJV])
Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

(Rom 11:11 [KJV])
I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

(Rom 11:12 [KJV])
Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

(Rom 11:13 [KJV])
For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

(Rom 11:14 [KJV])
If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

(Rom 11:15 [KJV])
For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

(1Pet 2:4 [KJV])
To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

(1Pet 2:5 [KJV])
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

(1Pet 2:6 [KJV])
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

(1Pet 2:7 [KJV])
Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

(1Pet 2:8 [KJV])
And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

(1Pet 2:9 [KJV])
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

And This Indicates that the Church will be removed from the Wrath of the Day of the Lord

(Rev 3:10 [KJV])
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

(1Thess 5:9 [KJV])
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

That is some good news!

Differences between the Rapture and the Second Coming

Misquoting Romans 10:12

Romans 10: 12 is often taken out of context as biblical proof that the church and Israel are the same.  if you read Romans 10: 12-13 then you see that there is no difference between who can be saved.  It is not just for the Jews and it is not just for the Gentiles that can call on the name of Jesus and believe in him and have salvation.

But the remnant of Israel after the great tribulation that Jesus speaks of in Matthew 24 and also is referenced in the old testament as the Time of Jacob's Trouble  are the people of Israel that will be saved.  That will be the fulfillment of a promise God made to Abraham that all his people would be saved.

“The Scriptures indicate that the Day of the Lord, the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, and the Great Tribulation have several things in common. First, the concept of trouble or tribulation are associated with all three . . . Second, the concept of an unparalleled time of trouble is identified with all three [Joel Joel 2:1-2; Jer. Jer. 30:7; Dan. Dan. 12:1 cf. Mtt. Mat. 24:21] . . . Third, the term ‘great’ is used for all three . . . Fourth, the concept of birth pangs is associated with all three . . . Fifth, the expression ‘that day’ is used for all three . . . Sixth, Israel’s future repentance or spiritual restoration to God is associated with all three . . . These comparisons demonstrate that several of the same concepts and terms are associated with the Day of the Lord, the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, and the Great Tribulation . . . they indicate that the Day of the Lord will cover or at least include the same time period as the Time of Jacob’s Trouble and the Great Tribulation.”—Renald E. Showers, Maranatha, Our Lord Come (Bellmawr, NJ: The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, 1995), 41-42.

Romans 10:12
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

Now read the entire text.  What does the Holy Spirit tell you this means?

(Rom 10:1-16 [KJV])

(Rom 10:1 [KJV])
Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

(Rom 10:2 [KJV])
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

(Rom 10:3 [KJV])
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

(Rom 10:4 [KJV])
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

(Rom 10:5 [KJV])
For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

(Rom 10:6 [KJV])
But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

(Rom 10:7 [KJV])
Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

(Rom 10:8 [KJV])
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

(Rom 10:9 [KJV])
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

(Rom 10:10 [KJV])
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

(Rom 10:11 [KJV])
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

(Rom 10:12 [KJV])
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

(Rom 10:13 [KJV])
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

(Rom 10:14 [KJV])
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

(Rom 10:15 [KJV])
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

(Rom 10:16 [KJV])
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
